DEDHAM, Mass. (AP) - A Chinese immigrant charged in the deaths of her 9-year-old daughter and unborn son in Massachusetts has been found incompetent to stand trial.
Fang Chi-Xue (SHWAY') has been hospitalized for physical injuries and psychological evaluation since being found unresponsive and bleeding from a slashed wrist in her Quincy apartment in April 2009. Her daughter was found dead in bed beside her.
Prosecutors say she stabbed herself in the abdomen, killing her unborn baby. Fang was eight months pregnant at the time and faces a manslaughter charge in that death. She faces a murder charge in her daughter's death.
A Norfolk Superior Court judge heard testimony Friday from a clinician at Worcester (WUS'-tur) State Hospital, where Fang is committed. Norfolk District Attorney Michael Morrissey says the judge stayed the case pending Fang regaining competency.
