A Davis, Calif., woman faces murder charges after police discovered her 5-year-old daughter's body in the trunk of her car.
Aquelin Talamantes, 29, is suspected of carrying out the Sept. 26 murder, according to Sacramento police. Relatives called authorities after Talamantes arrived at their home without her daughter, according to the Davis Enterprise.
Sacramento Police spokesman Doug Morse told CBS Sacramento that officers found the girl in the trunk of Talamantes' Honda Accord, "In need of immediate emergency medical assistance." Paramedics tried to resuscitate her, but she died on the way to the hospital.
Police are investigating Talamantes' home in Davis as a crime scene.
“It’s so sad, it’s just horrible. I just can’t imagine even thinking of anybody even thinking of doing that,” Rebecca Sewell, a neighbor of Talamantes' family in Sacramento, told CBS.
Neighbors told Fox Sacramento that "a fight between the girl’s mother and a manpreceded the child being put in the trunk."
Family claimed that Talamantes suffered from mental illness, according to a separate report from Fox Sacramento. On Friday, the victim was identified as Tatianna Garcia, but a police spokesman told the station that details in the case are being kept confidential due to the ongoing investigation.
I am terribly sorry for this family's loss. I can't imagine the pain and sorrow the family feels right now. May this angel rest in peace. My deepest sympathy to the family.
