FILICIDE (multiple, attempted): Texas: Tricia Gamblin Accused Of Trying To Kill Children, Self

Tricia Gamblin was charged with three counts of child endangerment.

According to prosecutors, Gamblin tried but failed to kill herself and her kids, ages 3, 5 and 6, in December at their home in the 400 block of East Oak in the Highlands in northeast Harris County.

Her next door neighbor and friend, Ruth Garza, told KPRC Local 2 that she still does not believe it.

"The only thing that I can say is she's good people. She's a good mother," Garza said.

But investigators said Gamblin used her car as a weapon.

According to court documents, Gamblin told one of her friends that she took her three children, put them in the car with her, closed the garage and turned on the engine.

"The defendant remained in the garage with the children for some time. Eventually, she moved those three children out into the living room area. However the car continued running. and fumes were allowed to enter into the home," said Celeste Byrom, a Harris County assistant district attorney.

A neighbor found Gamblin and her children on the living room couch and got them out of the house, officials said.

Gamblin later denied to detectives that she had tried to hurt her kids, but admitted attempting to kill herself.

Gamblin refused to submit to a polygraph test, prosecutors said. Warrants were issued for her arrest.

Her three children were placed in the custody of their father. He told KPRC Local 2 that they are doing fine.

Investigators did not say if Gamblin told them why she tried to kill herself. A neighbor said Gamblin was depressed.
