Stéphanie Meunier has been convicted of first-degree murder in the 2008 death of her boyfriend's son, four-year-old Jérémy Bastien-Perron, in Montreal's Pointe-aux-Trembles district.
The verdict means an automatic life sentence without the possibility of parole for 25 years for the 32-year-old.
The boy died shortly after emergency officials arrived at the residence Meunier shared with the child's father, Francis Bastien, on Dec. 6, 2008. The boy's body was covered in bruises.
Meunier, who had been caring for the boy, was arrested and has remained in custody since then.
She was initially charged with second-degree murder, but the charge was upgraded in 2010.
Jurors deliberated for 2½ days before rendering their verdict Thursday at the Montreal courthouse.
Meunier cried as the verdict was announced.
The boy's father is charged with manslaughter in his son's death. His preliminary inquiry will begin next year.
